About the Author
Simon Burtonshaw-Gunns skills fall under a broad umbrella. He is currently a visiting professor at Salford University, as well as actively consulting, attending regular speaking engagements and is a successful author. Simon has a technical background with experience in mechanical and nuclear engineering, Research and Development and on-site major plant commissioning followed by over twelve years Project Management in both technical consultancy and hardware projects for the UK Ministry of Defence. He joined British Aerospace, now BAE Systems, in 1994 undertaking the project management of specialist consultancy work in the former Soviet Union. Following a 12-month project management consultancy role with British Aerospace Military Aircraft he took up the position of Head of Project Management also acting as Project Director for two multi-million pound infrastructure projects for BAE Systems. Since January 2000 he has undertaken a number of consultancy projects, providing associated management training and business strategy planning and has provided specialist consultancy input on process development and construction industry supply chain topics. Simon has been a member of the Steering Board for two research projects at Reading University for BAE Systems and a founding member of an International academic research group on Supply Chain Risk Management. He holds a number of Institute Fellowships in Engineering, Project and general management. He has been a Hon Research Fellow at the Manchester Metropolitan University since the summer of 2001 and has presented conference papers in Sweden, USA, UK, Hungary and India, together with a number of publications and textbook contributions. In March 2002 he became a Research College Reviewer for the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. Finally, but most importantly Simon produced one of Business and Management leading titles for FY08 The Essential Management Toolkits.
