Rather than just a collection of short, “greatest hits,” this revision is based on a conceptual philosophy–that leadership is not exclusively tied to position in the hierarchy or limited to title and formal authority. Everyone has a responsibility to lead, and leaders need to be dispersed throughout and down through all levels of an organization. This new edition will help leaders by providing good theories (ideas that help them understand what leadership is and isnt), useful strategies for leading (clear directions for how to do it), an appreciation for the power of context (ways to understand what they are leading and how that impacts the process and outcomes), and a strong sense of self as a leader (awareness of why they are leading, where they are leading to, and how to sustain themselves along the journey). This revision includes a new edition of the Reader itself as well as teaching materials and course syllabi to support adoption of the book in leadership courses and training programs. The proposal below outlines plans for revision of the Reader. Teaching materials will be similar to those developed for the Management Skills and Organization Development Readers.
