A project proposal enables you to present the plan of action for a certain project so that sponsors and senior officers can be appraised of all details before the project is approved.
A project proposal refers to a framework or an action plan related to a project. It is basically created to give an idea to the potential sponsors or senior officials (in case of a business proposal for a company made by its employees) about what the person presenting the plan wants to do. It is an important device of business communication, and hence has to be crisp, to the point and should immediately appeal to the person concerned.
There is a fixed format that needs to followed to write a project proposal. The template given below follows the prescribed format. You can choose to study this template and download a copy of the same by clicking on the link given.
If you would like an editable version of the same, here is a downloadable copy of a project proposal template. You can then choose to include sections in accordance to the need of the proposal you are drafting.
In this section, we describe in detail the main elements that are included in a proposal for a project so that you understand the template better.
Primary Information
The first few sections of the proposal need to include all the basic information about the project like the name of the project, the location of the project, the name of the organization for which the project is being developed, etc. The number of details that should be included will depend on the type of project and also to whom the proposal is being sent.
Objectives
This is the section in which you state the expectations that you have from the project and the goals that you have set for it. You will be expected to include a summary of the project. It may be a good idea to list out the objectives instead of putting it in paragraph format.
Expected Outcome
While closely related to the objectives section, you need to put in more tangible answers in this section. You need to provide statistics and figures so that a reader understands what exactly the expected result of the project is.
Priorities
In this section, you will be expected to prioritize the different stages of your proposed project and explain the reasons for prioritizing them so.
Market Analysis
Here, you must explain the selection criteria for the products or design you plan to use. In order to do this you will need to explain the market for the product, the competition, and your supply chain, trade and retail models. This is indicative of your understanding of the market.
Implementation Technique
As the person proposing the project, you will need to explain in detail your plan for the implementation of the project. You will also need to detail out the techniques that you plan to use, the different stages, and the deadlines that you have set for each stage.
Budget for Project
The proposal should show a detailed budget prepared for the expenditure expected in the development and delivery stages. This section should also indicate the pricing strategy for the product or service and how it is to be worked out.
Duration of Project
The expected time period for which the project will be in development process should be mentioned clearly at the end of the proposal.
The project proposal should reflect that you have taken into account the various aspects related to the development of the business idea, and how it is commercially viable. Use the template given above and draft an impeccable proposal.
