About the Author
Ulrich Steger leads IMDs Global Corporate Governance Research Initiative and has been chairman and member of executive and supervisory boards. He holds the Alcan Chair of Environmental Management at IMD and is Director of IMD’s research project on Corporate Sustainability Management, CSM. He is the author or editor of numerous publications. Bill George is Professor of Leadership and Governance at IMD and also Visiting Professor of Management at Ecole Polytechnique Federale Lausanne (EPFL). He was Chairman of the Board of Medtronic, the worlds leading medical technology company, from 1996 to 2002 and CEO from 1991-2001, having joined Medtronic in 1989 as president. He was named Executive of the Year 2001 by the Academy of Management, and is the author of Authentic Leadership (Jossey-Bass, 2003). Peter Lorange has been the President of IMD since 1993. He is Professor of Strategy and holds the Nestlé Chair, and serves as Director for two programs targeted to senior executives. He was formerly President of the Norwegian School of Management, and has previously been affiliated with the Wharton and Sloan Schools of Management, USA. Dr. Lorange has written or edited 13 books and some ninety articles. John Ward is The Wild Group Professor of Family Business at IMD, and also a professor at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, USA. He is director of IMDs renowned Leading the Family Business program, and has authored several books including the best-selling Keeping the Family Business Healthy. F. Friedrich Neubauer is Professor of Multinational Corporate Strategy and Planning at IMD. Before coming to Geneva in 1973, he taught for six years at the Pennsylvania State University.
