This is a revised and updated edition of a highly popular treatise on the business philosophy that revolutionized Chrysler. Guts was highly praised for Lutz’s Laws seven gems of irreverent business wisdom that could be applied to almost any business. At the time of printing the first edition, Lutz had recently retired from Chrysler and thought he had all the rules down pat. He’s learned a great deal in the past year, as GM’s Vice Chairman of Product Development and Chairman of GM North America, and this update will impart an eighth rule to put the other seven into perspective for new readers and old fans alike. In this edition, Lutz also delves into the successes and failures among the automotive industrys recent acquisitions including Nissans transformation after Renault acquired a controlling stake, and BMW’s takeover of and sell-off the UKs Rover Group providing insight into the key ingredients for a successful acquisition and outlining how well-intentioned leaders can fail to nurture opportunities for business growth. Through Lutz’s Laws, the author kicks the sacred cow of strict linear, quantitative analysis in favor of a more balanced approach that embraces creative thinking. Lutz shares his leadership experience at Chrysler, including how he worked to achieve a unique culture there; a buttoned-down logical “steady-as-she-goes” financial outlook with a creative drive underpinning product development. The book reveals how an organization can and must attract, retain, motivate, and reward two very different kinds of people; how a leader decides which type of thinking belongs where in the organization; how the leader maintains a positive tension between the two camps. Like the oroginal edition, this insightful book will entertain, challenge, and show leaders the way.

Great Backlist Title with a Fresh Look This is an updated version of Bob Lutz’s classic treatise on the business philosophy that revolutionized Chrysler. The book will feature a new introduction as well as an epilogue with an eighth law to put the other seven in perspective. With Lutz’s outstanding reputation and eight witty, in-your-face gems of business wisdom, this book will never go out of style. It is humorous, rich in anecdotes and, like its author, a captivating subject. Strong Sales Track The original edition sold 44,000 copies in cloth and paperback. Solid Reviews for 1e Forbes urged its readers to “Read it for no other reason than to learn Bob’s Seven Immutable Laws of Business…This is vintage Bob–contrarian, thoughtful, and he’s really fun to read.” Financial Times lauded: “It’s worth the read. There’s terrific insight into the Chrysler revolution as well as insight into the man who executed it.”
About the Author
Bob Lutz is General Motors’s Vice Chairman of Product Development and Chairman of GM North America. Lutz first won wide recognition for his genius in product development with the 1989 debut of his concept car, the Viper. He was also renowned for leading the Chrysler’s second renaissance in the 1990’s; Automotive News called him “the towering figure in the American automobile industry in the last three decades of this century.” In addition to his leadership positions at GM and Chrysler, Lutz has held senior management positions at Ford and BMW. Despite (or perhaps because of) his irreverent, contrarian style, Bob Lutz has proven himself a model business leader for all time.
