A controller is the chief accounting executive of a corporation. The controller’s chief responsibilities include: (1) planning and control (i.e., budgeting), (2) financial reporting and interpreting, (3) tax administration, (4) management audits and development of accounting systems, and (5) internal/EDP audits. Now more than ever the role of the controller plays a great deal of importance within a corporation. Not only is the controller responsible for all accounting information but today’s controller is responsible for strategic planning as well as growth. This book will provide an overview of how controllers can better perform their jobs. In addition, it will provide a solid foundation for those who are new to the area (such as assistant controllers).
Quick reference guide that controllers can turn to. Provides detailed guidance on the essential functions of a controller and the role that today’s controllers should be playing. Show controllers how to enhance their performance (e.g., quick closing procedures, on-line inventory systems, and selecting adequate accounting software) while avoiding pitfalls (e.g., disaster recovery planning and selecting insurance). Provide a real-world text for managerial accounting professors to use in their classes.
