About the Author
Professor Juan Antonio Fernandez earned his Ph.D. from IESE (Spain) in 1997. He is frequently invited to give presentations on how to manage business enterprises in China to leading multinationals and has recently given presentations in China, South Korea, Japan, India, Europe, and the United States. His work has been published in Harvard Business Review (Spain),Business Week-China, Organizational Dynamics, Business Strategy Review, and the Asian Case Research Journal. Ms. Laurie Underwood has worked as a journalist and business editor since 1989, working primarily in Taiwan and China, with stints in her native United States. Her articles covering business, politics, entertainment and social issues have appeared in Asiaweek, Business China (published by the Economist Intelligence Unit), and for publications of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei. After spending 12 years in Taiwan, Ms. Underwood moved from Taipei to Shanghai in 2002 to enroll in the China Europe International Business School. After receiving an MBA in 2003, she took a position with the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai — the largest U.S. chamber of commerce in China. She is now Director of Communications and Publications for AmCham Shanghai.
