China needs business leaders. Both multinational companies and local Chinese companies are challenged with how to develop them fast enough to meet their growing needs. There is a scarcity of Chinese professional literature for Chinese managers/leaders about how to improve the knowledge base on how to meet the need. Western books are numerous but NONE of them describe in depth how to make Western best practices work in China. Chinese culture leads naturally to a different way of leading than in the West. So how does a manager/leader in China use Western best practices to fit within the Chinese business context? This book addresses these differences and integrates Western leadership best practices with traditional Chinese Wisdom. It is a first effort by a Westerner to merge these two critical features required to develop great business leaders in China.
Provides answers to the pressing concerns of companies in China on leadership development – What does it take to be a great leader in China? What is different about leadership in China compared to elsewhere in the world? Leadership is a huge issue for China businesses, especially at this juncture in time. It also provides an outline on what companies in China can do now to improve the abilities of their leaders. A how-to type of book on what is needed to integrate Western / foreign leadership best practices and make them work in China. Practical examples and cases, content compiled and developed via interviewing existing executives, managers and business people. Interviews expanded from the First Edition. Second Edition incorporates learnings from readers of the first edition in refining concepts about Chinese wisdom, understanding cultural differences between China and the West, and new stories about how to make leadership successful in China.
