I.O.U.S.A. will accompany a new feature-length documentary based on the writings of Agora’s The Daily Reckoning. According to filmmaker Patrick Creadon, “America’s federal debt is $8.6 trillion and growing at a frightening rate. In addition, our major entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid) are dangerously unfunded. As a country, we are slowly spending ourselves to death.” I.O.U.S.A. also picks up where the best-selling Empire of Debt left off. It will feature stories about the people involved in making decisions about the four major deficits in the country (federal deficit, trade deficit, savings deficit, and leadership deficit). Interviews have already been conducted with Warren Buffet, Robert Rubin, Alice Rivlin, Pete Peterson, David Walker, Paul O’Neill, James Areddy, and Bill Bonner.

In their latest film, I.O.U.S.A., the creators of the hit documentary Wordplay focus their attention on the US federal debt. Based on reports in the financial newsletter The Daily Reckoning, this film features a committee of government and business leaders acting as advisors. The book I.O.U.S.A., written by Agora author Addison Wiggin, will act as a tie-in to the documentary and draw upon the film’s interviews with financial and governmental luminaries. Advance praise for the film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2008, included the following: “…an alternately amusing and alarming primer on America’s off-the-charts fiscal irresponsibility.” – Justin Chang, Variety.com “may be to the U.S. economy what An Inconvenient Truth was to the environment.” – Mary Milliken, Reuters.com “most unexpectedly frightening movie in the festival.” – Kenneth Turan, LosAngeles Times “I.O.U.S.A.” is crucial viewing for anyone who claims to care about America.” – Brian Brooks, indiewire.com
TIE-IN TO I.O.U.S.A. DOCUMENTARY: I.O.U.S.A. accompanies a documentary of the same name based on the bestselling Agora book, Empire of Debt. The film is preparing to release in April or May of 2008 and will be shown at festivals in Cannes, Toronto, Sundance, Venice and more. HIGH PROFILE INTERVIEWS: Warren Buffett, Robert Rubin, Alice Rivlin, Pete Peterson, David Walker and Paul O’Neill have already been interviewed for the documentary. The book will feature highlights from the film’s interviews fleshed out with background, anecdotes and histories of the interviewees. The underlying message will be similar to that in Empire of Debt, but the stories and settings will be original. E-MAIL PROMOTION: The book will receive the full support of Agora Financial, as well as the author’s newsletter, The Daily Reckoning, with email blasts to 1M names. OUTSIDE PUBLICIST: The author has enlisted the help of outside publicity firm Rocks-DeHart.
