The books focus is the local spatial scale and the analytical approach adopted will be grounded in mainstream microeconomics. The main aim of the book will be to explore the workings of local housing markets. The first section outlines the main housing and planning policy challenges in the UK today. The second section examines the structure and operation of the urban housing system, exploring both conceptual and empirical analyses of the workings of the market. Section three considers the lessons for policy makers. It discusses the limitations of the policy framework and considers the strategies for integrating market information into the analysis undertaken in practice. Housing Markets & Planning Policy is a useful advanced text for honours and postgraduate students of land economy/land management, urban planning, housing and urban studies. The authors provide a uniquely detailed analysis of an important policy area that builds on a strong theoretical basis drawing on ideas from housing economics. With the challenges posed by housing market renewal programmes and the post-Barker agenda, it will be of particular interest to academic researchers, policy-makers and housing and planning practitioners.
