A hedge fund is a fund that can take both long and short positions, use arbitrage, buy and sell undervalued securities, trade options or bonds and invest in almost any opportunity in any market where it foresees impressive gains at reduced risk. The primary aim of most hedge funds is to reduce volatility and risk while attempting to preserve capital and deliver positive returns under all market conditions. They are normally structured as a private investment partnership and a substantial minimum investment is required. This book is intended to be a primer on the quantitative analysis of hedge funds. It aims at providing investors with a more quantitative understanding of this topic in order to provide a complete guide to portfolio techniques, asset allocation, performance measurement and product selection in the alternative investment world.
