Corporate scandals and the consequent intense focus on corporate governance, risk management and new market regulation have created a new business environment. The finance function of a firm is having to change its focus from number-crunching, rear-view reporting, to involvement in strategy setting, execution and monitoring. They need to shift from the current finance skills based approach to one based on broader organizational and management competencies. There is an emerging new role for the CFO, one that has to be understood not only by the finance function, but by all business managers in order that they can work closely together in formulating strategies for an organization.
Collaboration between a business journalist, a finance academic and the CEO of a global financial software company ensures a rigorous understanding of current practices, provocative thought leadership, and a unique access to available research and data. Illustrated with original case studies, real life examples, unpublished interviews (all with full organization details and disclosure). In addition, a major research project on Corporate Governance, International Accounting Standards and Performance Management across CROs in the UK, mainland Europe and the USA will be included in the book. Aimed at both finance and non-finance business professionals seeking to understand the issues related to busienss performance today. Practical and detailed in nature the book helps the reader to understand the issues and the steps they need to take.
