The primary challenge addressed by this book is how to shrink the time it takes for new employees to get up to speed. The authors call it Time to Proficiency. Learning Paths move away from curriculum-based training to an approach that moves most learning to where it really happens: in the work environment. The Learning Path approach also installs a measurement discipline that directly ties training to business results. This method addresses the obstacles and barriers training professionals have had in proving the benefits of their work. This is critical for building support as well as funding other training initiatives.
PRACTICAL. This book is short on theory and long on practical methods, techniques, strategies, and tactics. Includes strategies, processes, and tools for making enterprise-wide, real-time training possible. PACKED TOOLKIT. This book is loaded with forms and templates that can be used to build and implement Learning Paths — all included in accompanying CD-ROM, which will also feature a PowerPoint presentation that takes readers through the Learning Paths process. 30% IN 30 DAYS. This book shows how to shorten that time by as much as 30% in 30 days and measure the results in terms of increased profits. MEASURABLE RESULTS. Traditionally it has been difficult to measure training and link it directly to improved on-the-job performance. The authors show how you can easily measure results and tie them directly to going from one end of the path to another. FLEXBILE METHODOLOGY. While everything in this book is based on working with a wide range of types and sizes of businesses, the authors show how Learning Paths can be applied to the functions you will find in most companies. The book is also loaded with examples from call centers, transaction centers, customer service, internal and external sales, and manufacturing. PROVEN TO WORK. The process explained in the book represents an in-depth synthesis of the authors fifty-plus years of combined experience working from both the inside and the outside of Americas leading companies, including GE Capital, IBM, Disney, Dupont, and GM.
