About the Author
Prof. Tom James has acted as consultant to many energy firms during his 17 years of broad experience in global commodity markets. He has been involved in energy markets since 1989, and in early 2006 he was appointed Professor of Natural Gas Markets at the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (www.upesindia.org). With over 1000 students the University specializes in energy sector related graduate and post-graduate degree courses. Before embarking on a career in advisory in 2004, he was a Director for the Commodity Derivatives Group of the investment banking arm of the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi, Japan and prior to Mitsubishi, he was Director of Traded Energy Markets at the French bank Crédit Agricole Indosuez (now known as Calyon). He is a member of the Energy Institute, the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), Society of Technical Analysts Cambridge, Institute of Directors and of The Council of Energy Advisors and is a participant in the International Task Force on Commodity Risk Management at the World Bank. Tom is a published researcher and author of several books including “Energy & Emissions – Collision or Convergence” (Wiley & Sons, June 2006), “Energy Price Risk” (Palgrave Macmillan, Jan 2003) which has been published in English, Chinese & Russian Language versions, co-author “Energy Hedging in Asia” (Palgrave Macmillan, June 2005), and was a contributor to “Agribusiness & Commodity Risk Strategies and Management” (Risk Books, September 2003) and the Professional Risk Managers Association (PRMIA) book on Energy & Environment markets (PRMIA.org Spring 2006).
