It is estimated that internet trading will double every five years to reach over $1 trillion by 2003. Of that $1 trillion, about $100 billion will be business to consumer and the remainder will be business to business. To date many businesses have used electronic data interchange (EDI) to create their e-business sites. However, EDI is expensive, inflexible (can not adapt rapidly), limited in data content, based on propriety technologies, locks businesses together, and often excludes the customers. By using ERP systems, today’s businesses can eliminate many of the constraints that an EDI e-business system provides. Going from ERP to e-business will allow companies that were slow to inter e-commerce an affordable and rapid method of entering the “electronic” business age. Corporation’s will use this title to implement newe-business iniatives that will not only save them money but make them much more competitive.
