At last, a book for facilitators of synchronous (live) online training wanting to get the more out of the interactive tools that come standard with most synchronous systems whiteboards, breakout rooms, application sharing, chat, polling and so on. It covers the most common synchronous learning tools and shows they they can be used to enhance the virtual classroom experience. Each chapter is devoted to one tool and begins with a functional description and advice on how the tool fits into the instructional landscape. This is followed by a number of “scripted” exercises and activities that demonstrate the tool’s range and scope. The scripted exercises, which also appear on the accompanying CD, can be adopted and used as is, but also are customizable for use in a variety of situations. This is a book for practitioners who need to reach out for advice and guidance before, after, and perhaps evern during a synchronous session. Consequently, there’s no shortage of media tips and instructional techniques to help maximize the virtual classroom experience both for the facilitator and the learner.

Enormous investments have, and are being made, in learning technology and infrastructure. One area, synchronous, or live online learning, is a new world solution that is often used in a very old world way. In the rush to get learning out there facilitators, e-moderators or trainers resort to PowerPointTM slides and asking questionsshow and tell lectures with minimal levels of interaction . Yet, at their fingertips rest a suite of synchronous tools that can fully engage the learner, offering interactivity unrivalled in the classroom and, most importantly, improve the transfer of learning to the workplace.
Offers practical, ready-to-use exercises for the (live on-line) synchronous trainer and facilitator. * Shows how to use and combine learning and collaboration tools in a live session. * Offers sample facilitator scripts, graphics and customizable exercises on the accompanying CD. * Provides a comparison of all major synchronous learning platforms. * Companion book The Synchronous Trainers Survival Guide (0971282307).
