About the Book and Topic:
Using a case study approach, this dynamic and useful volume presents the first comprehensive look at ethical and legal issues in coaching. From coach-client conflicts to conflicts of interest; from assessments to informed consent, the authors detail the breadth of ethical quandaries that coaches face on a daily basis and provide highly practical advice for avoiding problems–and for solving them. Equally applicable to coaches pursuing any specialty, this book is designed to be used as both a professional reference and as a textbook in any accredited coach training program.
As coaching grows as a profession, coaches increasingly find themselves in need of legal and ethical guidance. While there are at least three ethical codes for coaches that have been put forth by various organizations, no book has yet been written that addresses the wide range of ethical and legal issues that face coaches on a daily basis. These dilemmas include dealing with client confidentiality, conflict of interest, and professional competence; as well as coaching-specific scenarios such as tele-coaching ethics, ethical use of assessments, and the legal aspects of different payment models (such as bartering).
First book to address ethics and law in coaching Includes case studies and discussion questions, making this suitable as a textbook. Will help coaches meet ethics requirements of the ICF, IAC, and other coach certification bodies. Pat Williams is the president of the Institute for Life Coach Training, one of the most prestigious coach training programs for mental health professionals. He is the author of a top-selling book on coaching for therapists; and his newsletter has 5,500 subscribers.
